Edward Herbers I love that this album sounds like it was recorded 50 years ago. Sharon has a powerful voice and the whole album has an excellent retro analog feel. Favorite track: This Land Is Your Land.

Josh Donald I feel so guilty I didn't find this incredible music until recently. This band is a superb juggernaut. I am sad that Sharon passed. Way too young.
Favorite track: How Do I Let A Good Man Down?.

Rob O. Sharon Jones was the Queen of Soul. The Dap-Kings just make you feel good. It's all about the good feelings. Man, love those horns! Looking forward to the vinyl LP. Glad I snatched up one of the last 2 remaining copies. Update: Just received the LP today February 13th and the record is housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket. Nice surprise! Favorite track: How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?.

Jascha Narveson This is such a powerful rendition of this song! The minor-key horn intro and funked-up military march groove lend a gravity to the song that Woody Guthrie's original version just doesn't have. Amazing. Favorite track: This Land Is Your Land.

about

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are already well known as one of the world’s most exciting soul acts. On April 6th, 2010, the group released their fourth album, I Learned The Hard Way debuting at #15 on the Billboard 200. After a few weeks on record store shelves around the world, the album continued to climb the Billboard charts hitting at #2 for Independent albums and #6 for R&B/Hip-Hop albums. Steeped in the gilded and gritty sounds of gospel, soul, and funk, the nine-piece act continues to electrify fans, disc jockeys, critics, record collectors, and journalists the world over with their heart-felt sound. Their devotion to soul music is clearly demonstrated on the band’s critically acclaimed albums. In addition to …Hard Way, the band has released Soul Time! (2011), a compilation of rare and previously unreleased tracks, 100 Days 100 Nights (2008), Naturally (2005) and Dap Dippin’ (2002) all on Daptone Records. Their albums recall an analog era of iconic studios like those at Motown and Stax Records and have thrust Jones and the Dap-Kings into the multimedia limelight.
